Episode 5
BBB will drive up childcare costs. Tiger done? The case of Peng Shuai exposes the IOC's shame. LOLincoln Project.
More bad impacts of “Build Back Better.”
In previous Episodes I’ve mentioned the job-killing aspects of President Biden’s Build Back Better proposal. Angela Rachidi of the American Enterprise Institute writes that the childcare program in the version of BBB passed by the House, will cost much more than has been reported.
“…the program in its currently imagined state will drive up costs in two ways: It will send more government assistance to a larger share of families across the income scale, and it will increase the overall cost of childcare through wage mandates and added quality requirements for providers.”
David Bahnsen joined the Commentary Magazine podcast for more discussion on the potential “Armageddon” for Democrats if they actually pass BBB.
Buzz’s Thoughts: The damaging effects of this bill on our economy are numerous. Pray that Manchin and Sinema save the Democrats from themselves.
Speaking of David Bahnsen, he joined Jonah Goldberg on The Remnant Podcast to talk about his new book “There’s No Free Lunch” and why Bahnsen isn’t as worried about inflation as the rest of us.
Buzz’s Thoughts: I’m not an economist, but it seems to me inflation is a problem and will be as long as we keep pumping so much money into the economy. However, Bahnsen makes some interesting points worth considering. Give these podcasts a listen.
Tiger’s road to recovery.
Golfing great Tiger Woods sat down with Golf Digest to talk about his recovery from the horrible car crash he was involved in last year. The good news? We’ll probably see Tiger play golf again. The bad news? Well…
“I don’t have to compete and play against the best players in the world to have a great life. After my back fusion, I had to climb Mt. Everest one more time. I had to do it, and I did. This time around, I don’t think I’ll have the body to climb Mt. Everest, and that’s OK. I can still participate in the game of golf. I can still, if my leg gets OK, I can still click off a tournament here or there. But as far as climbing the mountain again and getting all the way to the top, I don’t think that’s a realistic expectation of me.”
Buzz’s Thoughts: Tiger Woods’ best days as a golfer were probably behind him, but as he proved at The Master’s in 2019, he was still capable of recapturing the magic from time to time. In this interview he sounds resigned to his situation. How difficult was that for him?
Should the U.S. boycott the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics?
You may have heard of the saga of professional tennis player Peng Shuai of China. She posted on Chinese social media outlet Weibo an accusation of sexual abuse against a high ranking CCP official. She promptly disappeared and an email was sent, supposedly by her, retracting the accusation and saying all was well.
Tennis stars across the world protested and in stark contrast to how the NBA handles its relationship with the CCP, the Women’s Tennis Association stood by Peng and their athletes.
The International Olympic Committee expressed mild concern, since in February of next year, Beijing is set to host the Winter Olympics. The CCP promptly produced video of Peng, looking happy and safe. The IOC seems satisfied (shocker) but the WTA? Not so much.
"While it is positive to see her, it remains unclear if she is free and able to make decisions and take actions on her own, without coercion or external interference," (WTA CEO Steve) Simon said. "This video alone is insufficient. As I have stated from the beginning, I remain concerned about Peng Shuai's health and safety and that the allegation of sexual assault is being censored and swept under the rug. I have been clear about what needs to happen and our relationship with China is at a crossroads."
Buzz’s Thoughts: The IOC has never been known for their ability to stand up to the world’s worst governments. This latest ruckus only demonstrates what much of the world has known for a long time: China should have never been awarded the 2008 Summer Olympics, much less the 2022 Winter Olympics. The Biden Administration is considering a “diplomatic boycott” of the Olympics but some, myself included, feel stronger measures must be taken to stand up to China’s human rights abuses, and other aggressive actions around the world.
Lincoln Project moves from on from “Destroy Trump” to “Destroy The GOP.”
Politico reports that the Lincoln Project’s list of friends grows short.
The outside political organization headed by disaffected Republicans and other top Democratic operatives has experienced caustic blowups, internal disputes over beach house-level paydays, and disturbing allegations involving a disgraced co-founder. A recent campaign stunt evoking the march on Charlottesville to close the Virginia governor’s race earned them near universal scorn. And one of the organization's most recognized members is facing blowback for rooting for another Trump nomination on grounds that he’d be the easiest Republican to beat in the general election.
Undaunted, the Lincoln Project announced that their new goal was to defeat Republicans across the country in 2022 and 2024.
Buzz’s Thoughts: The Lincoln Project likes to take credit for Trump’s 2020 defeat. Little evidence supports this claim. The recent Virginia tiki torch stunt that blew up in their faces is just their latest miscalculation. It’s hard to see how they’ll be able to defeat very many Republicans moving forward.

Are you a Faith and Flag Conservative? Progressive Left? Or somewhere in between?
I took the quiz and was unsurprisingly a “committed conservative” along with 7% of the population.
